Re-Encounters in Melancholy Remix VA – Bassic Records

We have been waiting to ramble on about this huge EP just released on Bassic Records.

‘Re-Encounters in Melancholy’ is a compilation of remixes from some world class sound-designers of the bushtechno sound.

Harrison Downes AKA Käse Kochen revisits his original Asteroid in Orbit and together with Hayato Simpson, really turns the wheel with an intricate, dotted re-modulation of the synth work, whilst injecting a dark, wubby baseline drive famously affiliated with producers from northern NSW. Biomass jumps the fence with his hard-hitting techno vibes before knocking on psy-techno’s door. Evenwicht really gels the melodious, melancholy well with forward-thinking, psychedelic sound design. We’ve done a CAIN review and boy this dude is going places.

Jossie Telch flings the door wide open with his amazing mix attributes. This pioneer’s ability to push and pull those psychic textures and perc fx whilst maintaining his own unique groove with drums and melody really is awe-inspiring and his remix of ‘Asteroid in Orbit’ shows why he is one of the best in the world. MYDÄ come to the party with a playful, yet dark edit of Throwing Shade, with their famous sounding groove and subtle yet bouncy baseline bop. But our pick of the EP (this was extremely hard to make) has to be AXONs mind-melting remix of ‘Breaching the Carapace’.

Axon has lifted countless amount of souls with this piece of magic across Australian dance-floors over the last year. Famously playing this at his Elements festival closing set, this track is destined to take a person on an emotional and uplifting journey through the melancholic nature of the original’s sound. Axon intertwines his ancient, futuristic vibes through the bars, whilst introducing his own unique percussion groove and smooth criminal base sounds.

This EP really personifies the ‘Sound of Australia’ and boy are we lucky for Bassic Records to provide us with such amazing music.
